Prescriptions

Prescriptions are made in different formats and this page will explain what they are

Tinctures

These are herbs that have been extracted into alcohol. Usually a prescription will consist of a mix of around five herbs but the number will vary according to exact requirements and occasionally single herb tinctures will be prescribed.  They are taken in a little warm water and the dose is usually 5ml (a teaspoon) three times a day but the exact dose will always be on the bottle.

Capsules

Dried and powdered herbs are encapsulated in vegetable capsules. This delivers the whole herb and is especially helpful for digestive disorders. They are sometimes made as individual prescriptions but I do use some standard formulas that I make up in advance particularly for bowel problems. The dosage varies but will always be on the container.

Teas

Teas are made using fresh and dried herbs singly or in a mixture. A cupful of boiling water is put on a teaspoon of dried herbs and allowed to steep for 10 minutes. They are then strained and the liquid drunk.
